The Saviour's love

Christianity should be about following Christ. I would like to point out a contrast that has come to my attention. On facebook there are a few groups that I have joined about abolishing two sins, abortion and pornography. These are two of many sins that sadly have become pervasive in our world today. In these groups it is a wonderful thing that they reach out in love not hatred, one group works to end abortion and goes to planned parenthood speaking love to the mothers who are broken and in need of help. They do the work of Christ and their work has borne fruit in that there are many stories of girls and women who had planned to have an abortion and the life of the child was ultimately spared. The groups seeking to end pornography help those who struggle with that sin, they give these men and women an outlet to express the struggle, and the victories they may have. They are not insulting but loving. In contrast I came upon a group yesterday displaying none of the love of Jesus, this group posted images of young women who are in porn, labelling them and speaking harsh words toward them. This was egregious and is part of what has convicted me to write this article on the love of Christ, why it needs to be more fully on display; and the fruits of this, the conversion of the sinner (because of love.)

"But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath already committed adultery with her in his heart."
-Matt 5:28

"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." -Rom 3:23 All have sinned, not just some of us. Jesus commands us to love the sinner and hate the sin; there is no love in holding a sign saying that God hates a group of people, yet there is no love in doing nothing to stop sinners from receiving the grace to end their sinning. Yes, those girls in those pictures were sinning, and yes their sin is grievous, but is the sin of slandering them any better? All sin will bring about the same result, separation from God, the more you sin the more grievous the sin becomes. To hate your brother (or sister) you already make yourself a murderer according to Jesus. (Matt 5:22) How then can we say that the sin of the girls is worse than murder? When a woman given to fornication was brought to Jesus and thrown at her feet, the Saviour made a simple statement, "He who is without sin among you, let him cast the stone at her."- John 8:7 Those self righteous cavilers were forced to walk away while their stones fell to the ground harmless. They too in need of the divine Saviour and yet they did no more than walk away from Him who could have saved them from the results of the hate they felt towards this woman. I would venture to say that at some point most of us have quoted that verse, yet so quickly it is that men turn from the truth and readily cast stones. Before I came to know the lovely Jesus I would have reveled in those images, now tell me how my sin is different than that of the women in those pictures. I was crucifying Christ afresh, with every time I looked at vile images. Yes their sin is grievous, and no I am not excusing it, but I am saying that Jesus loves them in equal proportion to how much He hates their sin. Jesus would have died for any one of those young women, and His blood is sufficient to cleanse them all. This is the love of Christ, to cleanse us who are but hopeless sinners, and give us a new life. The love of Christ must be on display in His church.

Now The Church is describes as the body of Christ, (I Cor 12:27) so where is the Christlikeness of spirit and of character that ought to mark that body. We spend our time thinking about which sin is worse and which one is better, causing ourselves to be castaways, for all who partake of this unrighteousness are only bringing upon themselves reproach. It is true that some sins are worse than others, that the severity of our sin is going to determine our punishment to a degree, but the severity of sin is not what we need to have our minds set on. We need to be watchful in our own heart for those sins that attract us, we have far more to fear from within than from without. Jesus said in Matt 24:42 that we have to be watchful always for we do not know when He is going to make His glorious return but I for one am longing to be there. God's people are in great need of revival, of this I am assured, but revival and reformation must go together! How many of us claim the principles of Protestantism, the slogans of the Reformation, yet are unwilling to make a personal Reformation our hearts that would truly bring about righteous ends. True I may not have ever killed a man, but by having hated many people during my life, my sin would have landed me in the same reward weather my punishment was equal in severity or not. I will not dwell on my past to make the point I am trying to drive home which is this; irrespective of what your sin may be the cross is for you! Jesus would have died if only one pedophile was to be changed, stop harming children, and become the soul convert to the Gospel. Jesus would have died if His death brought only one young woman out of a strip club and into heaven! Jesus would have died if only to give you personally the strength to overcome your personal sin and live with Him forever and ever. A life for a life and that would have been accosted worth-while to our Saviour who despised the shame of the cross but took it anyway loving the glory. (Heb 12:2) Jesus gave up His seat on the throne in heaven, surrounded by worshiping angels who loved Him and served Him to a cold dark world of sin and degradation, and did all this after four-thousand years of the human race being degraded by Satan. That is how much Jesus loves you personally. Ellen White says that God looks upon us with the value of the sacrifice given for our sake, well it is true that Jesus died for the world, but He would have died for each one of us, life for a life, and therefore we are measured in God's eyes as though that is exactly the price paid for us. He loves us each as though we were the only one for whom He sent His only begotten Son to die; Jesus loves you as though you were the only one whom He lives three and a half years on a dark planet, died a horrid death of suffering and shame, and was resurrected for! This is what Jesus would like us to dwell upon, His great love, and as we spend time kneeling at the cross of Calvary, to be changed there will be fruits of righteousness borne of the seeds of grace.

The fruits to be borne are simply this, true repentance, true conversion, and true sanctification. There is no other. though our sins may be vile His blood is sweet, though our addictions may be corrupting His blood is redeeming, though our trials may be great He moves mountains! There is none, no not one, who is like unto our God. (Jer 10:6) Oh that men would see Jesus, the lover of my soul and say, "Oh to be like You my Saviour." All of us are wicked and in grave need of a Saviour, nothing you've done can cause Him to stop loving you! The fruits of our labor must be to share this, the Gospel of the living God, to bring about God's will that whosoever should come to the Way the Truth and the Life would not perish, but be found in that glorious kingdom the New Jerusalem! To Him that overcometh is promised the reward, and that overcoming will only be wrought by love!

Jesus loves each of us, He loves the stripper and the prostitute, the pedophile, and the atheist, He loves the fallen sinner who refuses to change. His grace is sufficient for us all, if we will but accept it unto ourselves. Jesus is the Author and Finisher of the faith! What greater promise can we have than that God is faithful to complete what He's begun? Surely there is no greater love than that of Christ, because while most would find it hard to give their life for a man who was great, Jesus gave His life for the worst of the worst. no one can fathom that love. No one can deny that love either! We are left without excuse. Let the love of Christ shine in you and the fruits of this be the conversion of the sinner, spend much time at the cross, that you may come to know that divine love! Those who have not yet accepted Jesus, come boldly to the throne of Grace and let the blood of the Lamb of God take away the sins of your past; it doesn't matter how hopeless it seems, for with God all things are possible (Matt 19:26) and furthermore I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! (Phil 4:13)

The Appeal of a Changed Heart

Today I'm realizing just how far I have to go; but it isn't about me. I am comforted by Philippians 1:6 because I like Paul am confident that the Author and Finisher of my faith will be faithful to complete the holy task He has set to do in me. His blood is the price that was paid for my Salvation, and we know that Jesus would have taken the cross even if looking through history He saw only one person truly converted. Jesus would have hung on that cross with Pharisees wagging their heads and said, "Kevin, you are worth it to me." He would have still given the thief on the cross the same promise even if that was the only thief who would ever end up bearing his own cross. So in other words yes God did love the world so much to give His only Son to die that whoever believes in Him should not parish. (John 3:16) But God also loves you, and me that much that He would have sent His only begotten Son to die that just one may not parish.

Ellen White assures us that we are loved in full accord of the price paid on our behalf. Yes the price paid for the world is the blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus, but amazingly that is the very price paid for each one of us as individuals! God values us, not as though we are one of many which we assuredly are. God loves us as though we were the only one He loved. This is so exciting! As I behold such amazing love, as I spend more time at the foot of the cross crying out, "Jesus Your Holy blood hath cleansed me! Now I am Yours! You have bought me with a holy price." As I think on my own lack of worth and realize the immense love that my Saviour has for His beloved, as I stop thinking about self, and instead think about Him... how can I not be changed? Yes I do have far to go, and I will travel every mile of it because God is faithful to finish what He begins.

God, knowing the end from the beginning saw that I would be a horrid sinner, yet that same God who knew just what manner of person I would be was willing to die for me on the cross; I tell you that most assuredly this thing called the gospel is not at all about me; it is all about Jesus and what He did on the cross of Calvary. By His grace we are saved (Ephe 2:8) and there's nothing I could do to earn such grace! To think that only a small remnant will be saved, when Christ loves each and every one of us so much that His blood is crying out, "Worship Me, the One True God and Me only, come out of Babylon and we will share a love together that you cannot now understand." This love I have not understood, yet here it is rushing like a whirlwind yet calm with a still small voice. Oh the price that Jesus paid, a payment which puts me eternally in dept, for I will never be able to pay Him back in any way, shape, or form. The righteousness of Christ is my solemn reward, and I love to watch Him go fourth like  a conqueror in my life, crushing out every sin. There is surely none like Christ.

It may seem now like I have far to go, and I do, but it isn't about me. This is about my wonderful Saviour, Jesus Christ. The only begotten Son of God, who counted it not robbery to be equal with God. (Phil 2:6) Yet humbled Himself so as to become the lowliest among men. So long as the constant though of my mind is Jesus Christ and Him crucified I cannot help but to be changed. Not at all! In-fact it is by keeping Him in the center of my thoughts that all sins may be overcome, for Jesus doesn't just cleanse me from my sin; He takes them away. (John 1:29) Oh that I would have the experience of Jacob, who would not let go until Christ blessed Him; or righteous Enoch, who walked three-hundred years with Christ. Oh that I could know the Saviour face to face and watch the miracle of His brightness like Peter, James, and John! The greatest wonder of all, is that still today, out of the dust of a sinful life, our great High Priest pleads His own blood that the dust may be made new, and may spring fourth into a new Character for Jesus. There is but one Hope and Stay, and that is the sure Word of God, which is Jesus Christ our immortal King! Hosanna to the Son of David, glory to God on the Highest!

Can Justice and Grace Coexist?

This is going to be a rather weighty article and may end up being just a portion of what will eventually become part of my much more comprehensive Bible study section. Today I received a text message from someone who I've been studying God's Word with; he was texting me to tell me about something but in the process he posed a very interesting question, "Can justice and Grace Coexist." Well, as anyone who knows me is already familiar I care nothing for philosophy, there is only one source that I trust or encourage people to trust when they have such a question. With that in mind let us examine briefly what the answer to that question is, with some evidence from God's immortal Word.

Justice and Grace, the very foundation of God's government in heaven. (Psalm 89:14) In Exodus 33:18-20 and 34:5-7 God declares His name, in doing so He declares His character and part of His character is being a just God and part is merciful. (See the Seal of God Bible study in the section "Bible Study, He is coming soon.") What if I told you that without grace there would be no justice and without justice there is no grace? In reality we have asked the wrong question in asking if they can exist together. The real question is, can they exist apart? By human reasoning perhaps they can, but we see in the Scriptures that of a truth they are both an essential part of the Divine character and therefore are indispensable and inseparable.

It is truly an interesting theme we're exploring, but lets see what the Bible says. Exodus 20:6 shows that God gives mercy to those who keep His commandments, and Matt 23:23 reveals that without mercy the law does not mean anything. Therefore the two are inseparable, Keeping God's law and dying daily as Paul said (1 Cor 15:31) puts us into a position to continue receiving God's eternal grace. (Neh 5:1) (Rom 6:15) That said, Matt 23:23 displays that without grace the law means nothing. For one thing no man can keep the Law of themselves, we require divine grace just to do that much, for another thing, even if you could somehow keep the law of yourself it would mean nothing without Jesus and His atoning blood and grace for us.

The truth of the matter is that we cannot live in a just manner, we cannot have justice without God's grace, but we cannot have grace without justice either. This issue deserves further study, there will be more articles on this subject down the road I can already tell, we haven't even scratched the surface. Of this topic. To conclude I simply want to post this very well done study from www.the-ten-commandments.org. The study is on the Law of God in comparison with His character and how God mirrored His character perfectly in all points of the law.
